Health & Safety

All of our staff are fully trained in their specialty areas, whether being a professional educator, or containing immense experience and training for their particular position at camp. Our Aquatics Staff have gone through LGT Lifeguard Certification or WSI Water Safety Instructors Certification. Our Adventure Course Staff go through Ropes Course Training, and Archery Staff are Archery Instructor Certified. Our Land Sports Staff come from Physical Education backgrounds, and during the year they coach their sports in elementary schools, middle schools, or high schools.

There are licensed medical staff on camp at all times during the summer – two professional RNs, as well as an RTE (Responding to Emergencies) certified head staff member. We have First Aid and EPI PEN Certified Instructors. All of our staff goes through a mandated orientation by the American Camp Association and local government.

Campers come to camp with a first application of sunscreen and counselors are trained to reapply 3 times a day: Once after instructional swim in the morning, then again before or after lunch and finally after recreational swim in the afternoon.

Water Stations

At all of our sports fields and various other points throughout camp, we keep water coolers. Campers can use cups we provide or bring their own water bottle to drink from.

Summers are hot and having shaded areas all over camp is important to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion. Whether it’s one of our many mature trees or canvas shades, campers have access to shade all over camp to help relieve them from the sun’s rays.

Front Gate

We are happy to have a full time member of staff at our front gate at all times. We also have security cameras at the entrance of camp. Screening guests is an important part of keeping our campers safe at all times. If visitors do not have the proper identification then they will be prohibited from coming onto camp property.

Due to our location we are supervised by the Westchester County Health Department in all aspects of their Summer Camp guidelines. This provides Breezemont with a solid list of benchmarks to ensure the safety of our program and facilities.

We are also accredited by the American Camp Association which provides another set of standards that must be kept current in order to keep accreditation

Off Season

Breezemont grounds are sprayed seasonally to help control tick populations. By utilizing a year round spray schedule we aim to end ticks before they become a problem. We use a low-dose high performance spray that has little ecological impact.
